New Delhi: A crucial meeting between the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs and Ladakh representatives ended without a breakthrough, with the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) reiterating their demands for statehood and Sixth Schedule status.
According to Global Mirror, the High Powered Committee (HPC) meeting, held after a three-and-a-half-month gap, failed to yield a common ground, with the New Delhi offering only safeguards under Article 371 and strengthening Hill Councils.
The LAB and KDA had submitted a comprehensive document to New Delhi in November, seeking statehood and inclusion under the Sixth Schedule to protect Ladakh’s unique culture, ecosystem, and land rights. The meeting also discussed the unconditional release of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and others detained after the September 24, 2025, violence in Leh.
