Nepal: A tragic road accident in western Nepal claimed the lives of eight people and left 45 others injured after a wedding bus fell into a deep gorge on Thursday night.

The incident occurred in Baitadi district, when a bus carrying guests returning from a wedding lost control on a mountainous road and plunged nearly 200 metres into a ravine near Budgau in Purchaudi Municipality.

Police said the crash happened around 8 pm. Among the deceased were seven men and one woman. The injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.According to Chief District Officer Krishna Thapa, around 60 people were travelling in the bus at the time of the accident. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Rescue operations were carried out jointly by the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and local residents, who worked through the night to pull survivors from the wreckage.

Authorities have assured further investigation and support for the victims’ families.
