Jammu: The continued detention of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Meraj Malik has sparked sharp reactions in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, with National Conference MLA Hilal Akbar Lone calling it an “insult to the institution”.
According to Global Mirror, Lone demanded Malik’s immediate release, saying the MLA had been jailed over a “petty issue” and was not allowed to represent his constituents. “Is this democracy?” Lone asked, as he appealed to all Assembly members to raise their voice for Malik’s release.
The issue led to a heated exchange between NC and BJP members, with BJP MLA Yudhvir Sethi sparking controversy by declaring Article 370 “dead and buried”. NC members, including Nazir Ahmed Gurezi and Salman Sagar, countered Sethi’s remarks, leading to a verbal duel.
