Srinagar: Women in the Beerwah area of Badgam district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) staged a protest against the authorities’ indifference to prolonged power outages and the installation of smart meters, which they say are leading to inflated electricity bills.
According to Global Mirror, the protesters blocked the Beerwah-Magam road to voice their resentment and declared they would not allow the installation of smart meters in their locality.
Raising slogans against the IIOJK authorities and the Power Development Department, the protesting women said frequent power cuts, coupled with the push for smart meters, have aggravated their difficulties, especially during harsh weather conditions.
They said irregular electricity supply has severely disrupted daily life, affecting household work and children’s education. The protesters warned that the agitation would be intensified if the authorities fail to restore regular power supply and address concerns linked to smart meters.
