Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has expressed hope that authorities will refrain from imposing restrictions during the holy month of Ramazan, saying closure of the historic Jamia Masjid during the most sacred days of the Islamic calendar causes deep anguish among worshippers and undermines the spirit of the month.
According to Global Mirror, addressing the Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid Srinagar, Mirwaiz said the grand mosque and Ramazan share a deep spiritual and historic bond. For centuries, the mosque has remained the central place of collective worship, reflection, repentance, and supplication during the blessed month.
He lamented that in previous years, restrictions were imposed on significant occasions such as Shab-e-Qadr, Juma-tul-Vida, and Eid-ul-Fitr. He stressed that Ramzan is not only about individual devotion but also about collective worship and unity. The repeated closure of the Kashmir Valley’s largest mosque on sacred occasions without reason, he said, deeply hurts the sentiments of people.
