New Delhi: Amid a rising trend of student suicides in India, with over 10,000 cases reported annually, a 19-year-old Computer Engineering student took his own life in BJP-ruled Haryana.

According to Global Mirror, the deceased, identified as Angod Shiva, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Kurukshetra district on Monday, Indian police said. He was a first-semester student pursuing a degree in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and was staying in a hostel on campus. No suicide note was found at the scene, police added.

Student suicides in India are rising, with over 10,000 cases reported annually, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh record the highest numbers, with youth aged 15–24 at greatest risk. Major contributing factors include immense academic pressure, examination failure, and mental health challenges.
