Srinagar : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, glaciers are melting at an unprecedented rate due to a combination of below-normal snowfall and rising temperatures, threatening the region’s water security.
According to Global Mirror, climatologist Sonam Lotus attributes the accelerated melting to clear skies and higher daytime temperatures, which are expected to persist.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts dry weather until February 25, with no major precipitation expected. This prolonged dry spell may exacerbate the snowfall deficit, already felt across the western Himalayan region.
